ACS Reminds Retailers About Resource to Support Vulnerable Customers

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is reminding retailers about its 'Retailer Services Checklist', a resource that stores can use to work with councils to provide support to the vulnerable customers living in their communities.

Retailers can fill in the ‘Retailer Services Checklist’ with details about the products, services and support that they have available for their customers, particularly those who may be more vulnerable or who are self-isolating.

ACS: Fuel Retailers Need More Support to Transition to Electric Vehicles

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) has responded to a consultation from the Department for Transport which sought views on bringing forward the end to the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and vans from 2040 to 2035.

In its submission, ACS called on the Government to do more to provide fuel retailers with support to introduce EV charging points and connections to the National Grid.

Local Shops Welcome Transparency on Energy Contracts

Ofgem has published proposals to deliver closer regulation of energy brokers to ensure that microbusinesses can secure the best energy contracts.

In a new consultation published this week, Ofgem propose to introduce more requirements on suppliers to ensure brokers conduct themselves appropriately, for brokers to provide more clarity on commissions and 14 day cooling off periods on contracts.

ACS: EFRA Committee Highlights Vital Role of Local Shops in Food Supply

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) has responded to the publication of a new report by the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee’s on the impact of Covid-19 on food supply.

Published today (30th July) the report highlights the vital role that smaller retailers have played in providing food to people during the pandemic, particularly where they were unable to get to supermarkets.

ACS: Local Shops Commit to Encouraging Healthy Eating in Communities

Today (29th July) part one of the National Food Strategy was published, outlining a number of recommendations to Government to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the food system and to encourage healthy eating from an early age.

One of the areas explored in the report is the role of national schemes in providing children with a ‘nutritional safety net’, including Healthy Start.

ACS: Obesity Strategy Must Consider Impact on Local Shops

Today (27th July) the Government announced plans to ban ‘buy one get one free’ promotions and restrict the siting of high fat, salt and sugar (HFSS) products as part of its national strategy for tackling obesity.

The strategy outlines measures, some of which have previously been consulted on and introduces new measures in light of the links between obesity and Covid-19 deaths.
