Job Title: Head of Member Engagement and Marketing
Location: Hybrid, (Mondays in Farnborough, Hampshire)
Salary: £60,000

ACS is the voice of the UK’s convenience sector, supporting retailers through insight, campaigns, networking, and advocacy. We are looking for a someone to reshape how retailers connect with and benefit from our work.

This is a high impact role focused on scaling member engagement through digital channels, strengthening key relationships, and modernising our marketing approach. You will redefine how retailers engage with and get value from ACS.

Key Responsibilities

Transform member engagement and marketing

  • Build clear, simple routes for members to plug into ACS core activities; networking, insights and campaigns
  • Overhaul CRM and email marketing to drive more targeted, impactful and effective communications activity
  • Lead account management of existing members and identify, invite and engage prospective members

Scale member engagement through digital channels

  • Develop and deliver a clear digital engagement strategy focused on the platforms most used by convenience retailers
  • Oversee the creation of highly relevant, practical content tailored to retailers’ needs
  • Work with colleagues across policy, communications and events to ensure a consistent digital presence that supports all ACS activity

Strategy and leadership

  • As a member of the senior leadership team, set the strategic direction for member engagement and marketing, aligning activity with ACS’ wider organisational priorities 
  • Use data, insight and performance metrics to continuously refine engagement and demonstrate impact 
  • Provide leadership across the organisation to ensure a member first mindset, with all teams contributing to engagement and value delivery 
  • Line management of a part-time Communications Manager.

Key skills & experience

  • Experience in engagement, marketing or community-building roles
  • Strong understanding of social media growth, digital engagement and content creation
  • Experience using CRM and targeted email marketing
  • Ability to build relationships with business owners and senior stakeholders
  • A commercial, outcomes-focused mindset

Job Title: Public Affairs Assistant

Location: Hybrid (Mondays in Farnborough, Hampshire)

Salary: £26,500 PA + Benefits  

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is a trade association representing 50,000+ local shops across the UK. ACS provides industry leading advice, networking opportunities and lobbying to its members, underpinned by a strong presence in the trade and national media on key issues facing the convenience sector.

ACS is looking for an ambitious candidate to join a growing External Affairs team in the role of Public Affairs Assistant. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic candidate to support a busy external affairs team. The ideal candidate will be capable of taking on a wide-ranging policy brief and working in a fast-paced and changing environment. A demonstrable interest in the political and policy process is highly desirable.

Reporting to the Head of Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Assistant will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring outputs from Government departments, parliamentary developments and the national media in order to produce daily and weekly monitoring reports for internal and external audiences;
  • Taking on their own issue areas focused on business regulation (business rates, cost of trading, fuel policy etc)
  • Researching policy issues to support the team in responding to Government consultations;
  • Drafting letters and briefings to key political audiences e.g. government officials, MPs, Ministers about campaigning activity and policy developments;
  • Providing administrative support for industry and parliamentary working groups;
  • Supporting the  team on the planning, preparation, and running of ACS policy events;
  • Attending internal and external meetings to brief ACS members and policy makers about ACS policy positions.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent comprehension skills and the ability to summarise complex information accurately and quickly.
