ACS represents 50,487 local shops, including over 8,279 petrol forecourt including BP, MFG, Shell and thousands of independent sites. Our members form the final link in the downstream oil supply chain, providing geographically distributed access to fuel and essential services for consumers, businesses and public services.
The government is seeking views on how the UK’s oil and fuel sector can stay secure and competitive while the country moves toward net zero. It stresses that refineries are still important due to support fuel supply reliability. Even as demand falls, oil‑based fuels are still needed for things like aviation, shipping, defence and off‑grid homes, increasingly in low‑carbon forms. The aim is to shape policies that protect energy security and jobs now, while supporting the sector to decarbonise over time.
