Retailer Services Checklist

You will already be playing a really important role helping vulnerable people in your community by providing food and other essential products and services. You may be offering a delivery service, or helping vulnerable customers and others with priority service in store, or working with local charities and good causes.

The Retailer Services Checklist has been designed to help you to tell your council and charities what you are offering. If they know this, they can direct vulnerable customers to you when they are contacted. They can also put you in touch with local volunteers who can help you to provide this support to vulnerable people.

You can also post this on your social media accounts to promote what you are doing in your community.

Card Not Present Transaction Guidance

ACS has developed guidance to to inform convenience retailers about best practice on offering and processing ‘card not present’ card payments during the COVID-19 outbreak for volunteers purchasing groceries on behalf of vulnerable customers or people self-isolating.

The Government has advised people who are at very high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 to ‘shield’ themselves from harm by staying home for a period of at least twelve weeks and avoid leaving their home for grocery shopping.

Card not present payments are an option for customers who are unable to come into store, the details are typically provided over the phone by the customer and entered by the retailer into the card terminal. The use of CNP transactions for in-store shopping is therefore an unusual measure, but one which can in help customers during the period of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The guidance includes information on:

  • How to accept CNP transactions
  • How to reduce chances of fraud
  • How to reduce risks of chargeback
