ACS Welcomes Consolidation of Minimum Wage Regulations

ACS has welcomed the proposed consolidation of minimum wage regulations as an important step in ensuring that retailers understand how the laws on the national minimum wage affect their business.

In its submission to the Government consultation, ACS has highlighted the importance of clear, concise regulations for convenience store owners – many of which will be minimum wage employers. ACS has also welcomed clarity from Government on exemptions to the minimum wage regulations, as many store owners believe that they earn less than the minimum wage themselves when their working hours are taken into account.

ACS Chief Executive James Lowman said: “Wages are one of the most significant costs for our members, so it’s essential that they understand how changes to the minimum wage rate and the regulations around the minimum wage will affect their business.”

ACS is currently preparing its response to the Low Pay Commission’s consultation on the minimum wage rates for 2015/16.
