ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) has welcomed calls from Matthew Taylor, the Interim Director of Labour Market Enforcement for tighter regulation to tackle non-compliant hand car washes.
At an event at Resolution Foundation today (13th February), Matthew Taylor called for the introduction of a national licensing scheme to tackle “endemic non-compliance” in the hand car wash sector.
Responding to the comments, ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “We welcome the Director of Labour Market Enforcement’s comments for more action to be taken to tackle unregulated hand car washes. We believe that there is a role for licensing in the hand car wash sector but it must be carefully developed so it targets the problem and does not place undue burdens on hand car washes operating legally and on the businesses that host them.”
ACS previously responded to the Environmental Audit Committee’s call for evidence on hand car washes calling for the role of licensing to be considered as long as this did not place burdens on the majority of compliant businesses.
