Cross Party Group On Small Shops Leads Supporting Entrepreneurship Inquiry

The Supporting Entrepreneurship Inquiry held its first evidence session in the National Assembly for Wales on 6th December, taking evidence directly from a range of Welsh Entrepreneurs and business organisations exploring how Government policy can support entrepreneurship.

The Inquiry is collecting evidence on the contributions that different types of entrepreneur make to the Welsh economy and looks to how best to support these entrepreneurs in the long-term.

DRS Would Harm Convenience Stores

The Association of Convenience Stores has reiterated its concerns about the impact that deposit return schemes would have on the convenience sector and overall recycling rates in a submission to the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. 

In the submission, ACS highlights that deposit return schemes would have significant implications for the convenience sector, increasing queueing times, posing health and safety risks for staff, and reducing the amount of space available in store.

ONS: Sharp Decline in Percentage of Young People Buying Cigarettes from Shops

ACS Highlights Problems with Deposit Return Schemes at Labour Conference

Bottle deposit return schemes would impose significant time and cost burdens on convenience store retailers and their staff, according to evidence presented by ACS at the Labour Party Conference this week.

At a fringe event hosted by the British Soft Drinks Association on Monday evening, ACS detailed the issues that would be faced by retailers if they were forced to be part of a bottle deposit return scheme.
