ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is encouraging retailers to take advantage of a new platform to allow them to train their staff on Assured Advice.

The platform, which has been developed by online learning company Bolt, will allow any ACS member to sign up to the Assured Advice scheme and benefit from both the assurance of the guides and industry leading training modules for staff members.

Carrier Bag Charge to Apply in Large Businesses from Today

From the 5th October all businesses with 250 or more employees will be required to charge 5p for each single-use carrier bag they provide their customers with in England.

Retailers who have less than 250 full time or equivalent employees across their business/es are not required to charge for carrier bags. Convenience retailers who are members of a symbol group or franchise model only need to count the employees in the businesses/stores that they own and run.

Changes to Fireworks Regulations Come into Force Today

New pyrotechnics (fireworks) legislation has come into force today, making changes to firework retailer’s record keeping practices and displayed signage.

Retailers selling fireworks will now be required to keep a record of who they bought their fireworks from for the last ten years and keep ten years’ records when selling fireworks on to other businesses.

The Tobacco Display Ban came into effect for all small stores on 6th April 2015 meaning that it is now illegal to display tobacco products to customers, unless a display is requested by someone over the age of 18.
