ACS is encouraging retailers to show their customers the different ways that they provide support for disabled and vulnerable customers, as well as those with additional needs.
The new Everyone Welcome guide is a comprehensive look at the different things that retailers and their colleagues can do in store to support each other and the millions of customers that they serve across the UK.
The guidance, available on the ACS website, outlines several considerations for retailers and colleagues on how they can adapt their behaviour and the practical changes they can make to their shop to improve accessibility for everyone.
Topics covered by the Everyone Welcome guide include:
- Communicating with customers
- Dementia
- Hidden Disabilities Sunflower
- Customers with sight loss
- Customers with hearing loss
- Customers who use wheelchairs or scooters
- Customers who use walking sticks or walking frames
- Customers with disfigurement
As part of the guide, retailers can generate a poster showcasing the support features that they offer in their shop. This tool tailors individual responses for a business so that they can showcase the support they provide.
ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “For some customers, everyday activities such as shopping can present its own challenges. We hope that with the Everyone Welcome guide, retailers and convenience colleagues can improve their knowledge about the different needs that customers may require and learn about the different ways they can improve accessibility to ensure that all customers feel welcome in store.”
