The event will feature the launch of the 2021 Crime Report, provide the opportunity to hear about best practice from industry experts and explore how the sector is working to tackle crime.

Minister for Crime and Policing Kit Malthouse has been confirmed to address the seminar to talk about action the Government is taking on retail crime and violence, including ACS’ work in partnership with the Home Office.

Confirmed speakers and panellists include:

  • Aman Uppal, One Stop Mount Nod
  • Susan Connolly, Connolly SPAR
  • Stewart Farrell, Head of Retail Loss Prevention, Next
  • Jenny Alleyne, Head of Retail Risk Health and Safety, The Co-operative
  • Eleanor O’Connell, Public Affairs Executive, ACS
  • James Lowman, Chief Executive, ACS

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “The serious and long-lasting personal impact of crime on our members and colleagues cannot be tolerated. By bringing together the Minister, retailers and other stakeholders we are continuing to press for more effective responses to what remains the biggest operational challenge and faced by local shops.

“This event is the perfect opportunity for retailers to share their experiences and get new insights into ways to prevent and tackle crime in and around stores. Our crime survey allows this discussion to be informed by up to date and relevant information.”

Over the last year, crime has been at the forefront of retailers’ minds with new regulations on areas like social distancing and face coverings leading to significant levels of confrontation, violence and abuse of colleagues.

The 2021 Crime Report will address the impact of Covid-19 on the sector, as well as looking at other criminal activity like theft, robberies, burglaries and fraud.
