CMA to Enforce Against Forecourts Not Signed Up for Fuel Finder Scheme

ACS is urging fuel retailers to ensure that their forecourt sites are registered for the Fuel Finder Scheme, which launched in February this year.

The Fuel Finder Scheme requires retailers to report fuel price changes within 30 minutes and provide details on eight facilities and amenities, including Adblue pumps, Adblue packaged, LPG pumps, car washes, air pumps, water filling, 24 hour fuel, and customer toilets.

From today (May 1st 2026), the Competition and Markets Authority have announced that they will take action against any forecourts that are not signed up for the scheme.

Minister for Energy Consumers Martin McCluskey said: “I know the war in the Middle East has already hit drivers hard, which is why tackling the affordability crisis is this government’s number one priority. Fuel Finder will drive competition up and costs at the pump down by forcing all petrol stations to share their prices.

“And from today, the Competition and Markets Authority will be taking action against forecourts not signed up or reporting prices, helping consumers find the cheapest fuel in their area, no matter where they live. To avoid a fine, forecourts must sign up to the scheme and start reporting prices now.”

ACS has been working with the Government to raise awareness of the Fuel Finder scheme, and has previously raised concerns about the adoption of the scheme when the launch of the registration portal was delayed at the end of last year. The CMA stated in advance that between February and May, their focus would be on helping businesses comply with the live beta version of Fuel Finder, rather than on enforcement action.

Retailers that haven’t signed up yet should register all forecourt sites they manage as soon as possible to ensure compliance with the scheme. The department has published detailed guidance on how to use Fuel Finder, including:

  • What you’ll need to sign up.
  • How to register and update forecourt information.
  • How to report fuel prices.
