ACS is reminding retailers that from 1st October 2025, new regulations will take effect in England to restrict the promotion of products high in fat, salt, and sugar (HFSS).

Local Shops Welcome Clarity on Energy Drink Age Restrictions

Local shops have welcomed a new consultation from the Department of Health and Social Care on the introduction of a legal age restriction on energy drinks.

Under the proposals, announced today, drinks that contain more than 150mg of caffeine per litre would be illegal for sale to anyone aged under 16. Tea, coffee and lower caffeine soft drinks are not affected by the plans.

Wales Confirms Spring 2026 Implementation for HFSS Regulations

The Welsh Government has published its consultation response on draft HFSS regulations, confirming its intention to bring the rules into force from Spring 2026.

ACS has welcomed the announcement, which means that retailers will have at least 12 months to prepare for the introduction of the rules, subject to approval in the Senedd.
