ACS Supports International Day of Persons with Disabilities

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is supporting the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) which takes place today (December 3rd).

IDPD aims to raise awareness about the barriers that people living with disabilities face and this year’s theme is “Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality”.

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “Convenience stores serve a wide range of customers and can play a key role for disabled and elderly customers who value the convenience and personalised service that local shops can offer.

“Our guidance helps retailers and their staff to make stores as accessible as possible to ensure that they can meet the needs of disabled customers who visit their store.”

ACS developed guidance in partnership with the Business Disability Forum, which covers a range of issues including wheelchair access, how to assist blind or visually impaired customers and how to assist those with dementia.
