Mars Food UK has proudly announced a partnership with the Trussell Trust that begins with an on-pack promotion to encourage the nation to STAND AGAINST HUNGER®.
The STAND AGAINST HUNGER® campaign will see us donate £100k to the Trussell Trust to support the distribution of two million meals through 3 day emergency food parcels across its food bank network to help families in crisis across the UK.
We believe that Dinner Time Matters and that everyone should be able to put food on the table for themselves and their families. With 14 million people in the UK living in poverty this isn’t always possible. Food bank use in the UK rose by almost 75% over the last 5 years, with Covid-19 driving another 89% year on year increase in 2020.
The aims of our partnership in 2020 are:
- To support families currently using food banks by donating £100k to the Trussell Trust to support its network of food banks to provide 2 million meals in emergency food parcels.
- Raise awareness with our consumers of food bank use in the UK as the first step in helping the Trussell Trust change minds around food bank use and poverty in the UK.
- Create a call to action for our consumers to support the Trussell Trust and their local food bank.
Speaking on the new campaign, Craig Sargeant, General Manager at Mars Food UK says: "Family dinnertimes are hugely important and we're proud to be working with the Trussell Trust to help families in crisis, especially during this time of uncertainty. We hope the campaign will raise awareness about the issue of poverty and increase support for the Trussell Trust and local food banks, at a time of increased pressure on food bank services."
Emma Revie, chief executive of the Trussell Trust, said: “We’ve seen unprecedented numbers of people needing help from food banks as the impact of coronavirus has hit people’s incomes. This isn’t right. But thanks to the ongoing support of Mars Food UK, food banks in our network will be better equipped to provide the lifeline of emergency food to people in crisis.
“But ultimately no one should ever need to use a food bank. Our partnership with Mars Food UK will not only help food banks today but will help us work towards a future where everyone can afford their own food.”
Special packs of UNCLE BENS® and DOLMIO® products are available across the UK from August until October 2020.
