Steve Double MP Visits Local Shop in St Austell

Steve Double, the local MP for St. Austell & Newquay, recently visited a Spar in his constituency to discuss the challenges facing local shops, and the growing part that they are playing in servicing their communities.

The visit took place in Bethel, St Austell with Store Manager Neil Roseveare and Area Manager Carl Bladon. During the visit Steve heard about how important neighbourhood stores have become to our communities, and how the range of services that they provide are an integral part of the day-to-day lives of local people. Like many other towns & villages across the UK, St. Austell has seen its banks continue to close, and the in-store Post Office in particular, has become vital in providing customers with access to a broad range of essential financial, postal and bill payment services.

Steve also heard about the challenges stores are facing into with increasing levels of retail crime and the growing demand that this is placing on local police resources.

Steve Double MP said: “It was great to visit Spar Bethel in order to discuss the challenges facing local shops and the role they play in the local community.

“Thanks to Neil and the team for seeing me, I will always support local businesses and it is important to find out what these challenges are so I can lobby the Government to get their priorities right. In particular I hope the extra police funding announced this week will have a real impact in terms of the crime issues reported to me during my visit.”
