Spar retailer wins ACS Achievement Award and a place on the Barcelona Study Tour

The ACS Achievement Award aimed to seek out the most promising people in the convenience store industry to win a place on ACS’ European Study Tour in Barcelona.

Susan Connolly, Business Development Manager at Connolly Spar, was announced as the winner of the Achievement Award at an exclusive event in Leicester on 30th September.

To enter, individuals from within the retail sector had to respond to the following statement in 100 words or less: “Share one idea for boosting convenience retailers’ profitability in the face of intense competition and technological change”.

Susan’s winning entry described the important role that product sampling can play within a convenience store by increasing footfall, profitability and customer interaction.

“The Achievement Award is an excellent way for us to discover talented people in the convenience sector like Susan, whose entry challenged the judges to think differently about what can drive profitability in store” said ACS Chief Executive, James Lowman. “We are delighted to be welcoming Susan on our exclusive study tour next month, which will provide her with invaluable networking opportunities to take her career and business to the next level.”

Susan’s prize is a place on ACS’ European Study Tour in Barcelona this November. The Study Tour will showcase the city’s best stores, giving retailers a fantastic insight in to the European convenience sector.

“We are delighted that Susan’s achievements have been recognised with this award from the ACS” said Nick Kenworthy, Sales & Marketing Director for SPAR’s wholesaler, Appleby Westward Group. “She has worked extremely hard to promote and drive the SPAR business at Pewsey and this is a great reward for all of the hard work which Susan has put in, utilising many of the tools available to her from SPAR as well as her own initiative.”
