ACS/Onward Fringe Event this Sunday: Forgotten Neighbourhoods and Local Parades

ACS is working with think-tank Onward to host a virtual fringe event at Conservative Party Conference this Sunday from 12.30pm to 1.45pm.

The fringe event: Forgotten Neighbourhoods and Local Parades will discuss Onward’s latest Repairing Our Social Fabric Report on the changing nature of Britain’s communities. ACS will be speaking about the important role of local shops in communities and the support and recognition needed from the government. We have an excellent line-up of speakers at the fringe including:

  • Paul Scully MP, Minister for Retail, Small Business, Consumers and Labour Markets
  • Danny Kruger MP, Member of Parliament for Devizes
  • Virginia Crosbie MP, Member of Parliament for Ynys Môn
  • James Lowman, Chief Executive of Association of Convenience Stores

ACS members are welcome to observe the event by following the sign-up instructions detailed below. If you would like to view the event and the discussion please sign up by following these steps:

  1. Visit the Conservative Party Conference website here and sign up for a free ‘observer pass’ and you will be sent a confirmation and verification code.
  2. On Sunday, log into the Conservative Party Conference website using your code.
  3. Navigate to the ‘Fringe Room’ section of the virtual conference and go the ‘Onward Tent’.

Figures from the 2020 Local Shop Report show that convenience stores are the number one service that has a positive impact on communities, followed by post offices and pharmacies. More than three quarters of convenience stores are active in their communities, with the most common activity being raising money for local charities.
