ACS Calls on Retailers to Complete National Living Wage Survey 2020

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is calling on retailers to respond to the National Living Wage Survey 2020.

The closing date for the survey is 6th May 2020. All responses are confidential.

Results from the survey will help to inform ACS’ submission to the Low Pay Commission’s consultation on the minimum wage rates to apply from April 2021, increasing the NLW to two-thirds of median earnings by 2024 and reducing the age threshold for the NLW from 25 to 21 by 2024.

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “We understand that all retailers are facing a significant amount of pressure at the moment, as a result we have shortened the survey and it should now take no longer than ten minutes for you to complete.

“Employment costs are one of the biggest costs for local shops and changes to wage rates have practical implications on the day-to-day running of the stores in our sector. This survey ensures that our sector is represented in discussions about future wage rates and helps us to explain to government the potential implications of further changes to wage rates on our sector.”

The rates for the National Living Wage and Minimum Wage from 1st April 2020 are:

  • The National Living Wage for ages 25 and above - up 6.2% to £8.72
  • The National Minimum Wage for 21-24 year olds - up 6.5% to £8.20
  • For 18-20 year olds - up 4.9% to £6.45
  • For under 18s - up 4.6% to £4.55
  • For apprentices - up 6.4% to £4.15
