Stop Shop Theft

ACS Calls on More PCCs to Engage on Retail Crime Action Plan

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is calling on Police and Crime Commissioners across England and Wales to share information about how their forces are planning to tackle retail crime.

The Stop Shop Theft campaign currently has information from 10 PCCs on how they’re delivering the Retail Crime Action Plan, how retailers can report theft, and the single points of contact for force areas. The PCCs that have engaged with the campaign to date are:

  • Tracy Brabin, West Yorkshire (Labour)
  • Alun Michael, South Wales (Labour)
  • John Dwyer, Cheshire (Conservative)
  • Andy Dunbobbin, North Wales (Labour)
  • Festus Akinbusoye, Bedfordshire (Conservative)
  • Kim McGuinness, Northumbria (Conservative)
  • Andrew Snowden, Lancashire (Conservative)
  • Emily Spurrell, Merseyside (Labour)
  • David Sidwick, Dorset (Conservative)
  • Steve Turner, Cleveland (Conservative)

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “We’ve had a positive response to date on the Stop Shop Theft campaign from Police & Crime Commissioners across England and Wales prioritising retail crime and making it clear that shop theft and violence against shopworkers will not be tolerated, but there is more to be done. We urge all remaining PCCs to engage with the campaign and help us to build a resource of information that retailers across England and Wales can utilise to make it easier to report shop theft and engage with the police.”

As part of the campaign, ACS is urging retailers to contact their Police and Crime Commissioners asking them to share key information about the delivery of the Retail Crime Action Plan. Retailers can send a template email to their PCC on the campaign website here.
