Responsible Retailing Forum 2023

The Responsible Retailing Forum is the chance for retailers and suppliers to come together and discuss the regulatory and responsibility issues affecting local shops.

This session will cover:

  • HFSS Restrictions in the Devolved Nations
  • Central Vape Enforcement Squad in Action
  • What Digital Proof of Age Means for Local Shops
  • Environment

The session will conclude with a retailer-only session where you will have the opportunity to engage with other retailers, share best practice and ask the ACS’ public affairs team any questions that you might have.

Event Speakers

Shehab Choudhury, DRS Team Leader, Defra

Shehab is a DRS Team Leader at Defra. His team lead on Stakeholder Engagement and Business Readiness. Shehab works closely with ACS and others to support the retail sector get ready for DRS. Prior to joining Defra, Shehab worked across the public sector including at BEIS, within local government, and the NHS.

Ed Wilson, Deputy Director Public Health Improvement, Welsh Government

Ed joined the Welsh Government as Deputy Director Public Health Improvement in June 2021, covering alcohol, tobacco, obesity, health inequalities, mental wellbeing and health and employability. Prior to joining the Civil Service, his career has included leading the work of the Royal College of General Practitioners across the Devolved Nations, and working at the Welsh Parliament. 

Leigh Edwardson Senior Policy Manager, Restricting Promotions Team, Scottish Government

Leigh Edwardson Senior Policy Manager, Restricting Promotions Team, Scottish Government. Leigh is the policy development lead for HFSS promotions restrictions in Scotland. 

Daniel Askew, Public Affairs Manager, ACS

Daniel joined the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) in February 2022 after completing a master’s degree in International Relations at Newcastle University. As Public Affairs Manager, he leads on key product regulations affecting the convenience retail sector, as well as retail crime policy.

Daniel works closely with ACS members to represent the sector’s views on major policy developments, responding to government consultations and contributing to regulatory outcomes. His work helps ensure the voice of convenience retailers is heard across every level of government.

Willem van de Ven, Public Affairs Executive, ACS

Willem joined ACS in January 2022 after graduating with a master’s degree in the History of War from King’s College London. Previously, Willem worked in administration for the NHS and as a part-time journalist. He is a member of the public affairs team and leads on crime, environmental and fuel policy.
