ACS Standardised Packaging Guidance Awarded Assured Advice Status

ACS has added a new guide to the successful Assured Advice scheme, providing retailers essential information on the Standardised Packaging and Tobacco Products Directive.

On May 2016, the European Union Revised Tobacco Products Directive and the Standardised Packaging of Tobacco Regulations 2015 came into effect. However, retailers have a sell through period to sell non-compliant stock until 20 May 2017. From this date, retailers will only be able to sell tobacco in standardised packaging, in a minimum pack size of 20 for cigarettes and 30g packs for roll your own tobacco. The guidance sets out the action that retailers need to take at every stage of the introduction of the regulations and includes details of changes to the law on the sale of tobacco packs, roll-your-own tobacco, e-cigarettes and flavoured tobacco.

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “It is essential that retailers prepare for the change in tobacco regulations on May 20th, which is why we are committed to providing comprehensive guidance for retailers that is backed up by our Primary Authority relationship with Buckinghamshire and Surrey Trading Standards. ACS Assured Advice is recognised as industry leading guidance for the convenience sector on regulatory issues, and we are pleased to be able to provide an Assured guide on the upcoming tobacco regulations to give retailers peace of mind about their in-store procedures.”

ACS has also produced posters for retailers to display in-store to help communicate the changes to tobacco legislation to customers. Along with the guides, these posters have been Assured by our Primary Authority partners at Bucks/Surrey.
