David Sands

David’s Kitchen

After graduating from Edinburgh university in 1988, David joined Sainsbury’s as a graduate retail trainee, working in stores in London.

He rejoined the family business in 1989, assisting with the acquisition of its second outlet in Methilhill, Fife. Over the next 23 years David worked closely with his father Lindsay in developing a chain of 29 convenience stores in Fife and Perthshire. Turnover reached in excess of £40m and profits rose to around £2m.

David was a firm supporter of the SGF, serving as President, when only 30 years old in years 1996-1998, and having been a member of the National Executive for over 14 years.

The company was sold successfully to the Co-operative Group in April 2012 and since then David has started six different businesses in both property and retail, including a new convenience concept called David’s Kitchen.
