ACS Backs Usdaw Respect for Shopworkers Week

ACS has outlined its support for Usdaw’s annual Respect for Shopworkers Week, highlighting the importance of crimes against retailers being taken seriously by local police forces.

Figures from the ACS Voice of Local Shops survey show that across the UK, 42% of retailers have experienced some form of violence or verbal abuse over the last year with over half of retailers being victims of shop theft.

The theme of the 2016 Respect for Shopworkers Week is ‘Keep Your Cool’, encouraging the public to remember that despite the stresses of the Christmas period, there is never an excuse for abuse or violence.

Guidance is available for retailers as part of the 2016 Crime Report on how to deal with crime in their business, which can be downloaded here.

ACS is also currently calling on retailers to share their experiences of retail crime over the last 12 months as part of the Crime Survey 2017. The survey asks retailers to outline the number of incidents of crime they have experienced, including shop theft, robberies and anti-social behavioural incidents.

The survey can be found here. The deadline for responses is 9th December 2016.
