Technology Showcase 2020

ACS' Technology Showcase will bring together retailers and suppliers to hear first-hand about the latest innovations in the convenience sector, the impact that technology has on local shops and the work that ACS is doing to help in this key area.

Speakers include Polly Barnfield from social media experts Maybe, Harry Walker from Google and Matt Truman from retail tech investment business True Global.

The finalists for the 2020 Technology Showcase, who will present their innovations to an audience of leading retailers on the day are:

  • HL Display UK- provide a range of products that can create a bulk merchandising and zero waste category within the store, using gravity and scoop bins that can be used with most loose products to provide a great customer offer.
  • APG Cash Drawer- SMARTtill is an intelligent cash drawer, it counts the cash and provides real-time data and a full transactional audit trail.
  • epay-  through epay’s Promotion Management portal retailers can create offers in 3 quick and easy steps. This can be managed at head office or by individuals in-store with different admin levels available to be applied.
  • NearSt- boost in-store footfall by making the products on shop shelves visible to shoppers nearby searching in Google.
  • Snappy Shopper- Convenience stores can now increase their online sales through this intuitive and easy to use app where consumers can quickly add products to cart, check out and get it delivered in under an hour.
  • IQOS- Philip Morris’ IQOS device offers the closest experience to smoking a cigarette on the UK market. The pioneering technology heats tobacco to 350°C – enough to release a flavourful vapour without burning – generating on average 95% less of the harmful toxins found in cigarette smoke.

Chris Noice, Communications Director, ACS

Chris joined ACS in October 2009 having graduated from York University with a degree in English and Linguistics. As Communications Director, Chris is responsible for all ACS external and internal communications, media relations and a growing research portfolio which includes the industry leading Local Shop Report.

Chris is an official spokesperson for ACS, appearing frequently on national and regional radio and television including BBC News, Sky News, BBC Breakfast and the Daily Politics show. 

Chris completed the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Diploma in 2013 and the CIM Strategic Marketing Masterclass in 2017. 

Paul Chamberlain, Commercial Director, ACS

Internationally acclaimed as the most prolific convenience store visitor worldwide, Paul’s extensive industry knowledge allows him to organise the most topical and relevant events to provide networking and sharing of best practice across the sector. As Commercial Director at ACS, Paul’s role is to understand the issues which impact upon the long-term success and relevance of the convenience sector.  Bringing together retailers and suppliers in a meaningful way to share experiences that can deliver this long-term growth.

Matt Truman, CEO and Co-Founder, True

Matt is CEO and co-founder of True, a unique, vertically integrated, £200m, sector specialist, retail and consumer investment firm. Matt has been involved in the retail and consumer sector for 16 years. Matt co-founded True with Paul Cocker in 2008, initially as a private investment vehicle to build and ultimately realise, to Tiger Global, his own e-commerce business in his spare time (which grew from three to 120 people, selling 68 brands in 70 countries in three years) before launching the investment firm full time in mid-2013.

Harry Walker, Industry Head, Grocery Retail, Google

Harry joined the Google UKI retail management team in 2017 in charge of leading the sales team responsible for developing eCommerce initiatives and strategies across a portfolio of retailers focussing on the Grocery sector.

Having joined Google in 2012, Harry has worked in various roles working with the UK's biggest brands leading Google's efforts across a diverse set of industries from Utilities and Education to the Food Delivery industry,

A graduate from the University of Bristol Harry also holds an MBA from INSEAD
