Job Title:                    Commercial Assistant

Working for:              Association of Convenience Stores Ltd

Hours:                        Monday – Friday 9am-5pm, 1hr lunch

Location:                    Monday and Thursday office based in Farnborough, Hampshire.

Remaining three days working from home.

Interviews:                 Immediately

Starting date:            1st April 2024

Benefit Package:       Salary of £25,000 per annum

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) is a trade association representing 49,000 local shops across the UK. ACS provides industry leading information, networking opportunities, and lobbying to its members, underpinned by a strong presence in the trade and national media on key issues facing the convenience sector.

ACS is looking for a conscientious candidate to join a growing commercial team in the role of commercial assistant on a full-time basis. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic candidate, with a keen eye for detail to support a busy commercial team. The Commercial Team works with FMCG suppliers, like Coca Cola, Mars, Red Bull etc.

Commercial activity at ACS is designed to drive income while providing targeted networking events at all levels, bringing retailers and suppliers together to share best practice. This role is designed to support the head of supplier relations in the recruitment and retention of supplier companies of ACS.

Requiring skills in business planning and development, sales, communication and personnel, the key responsibilities of the Commercial Assistant include:

  • Responsible for ACS Connect suppliers. Understanding their objectives and recruiting new suppliers into the Connect package.
  • Analysis of retail and market sectors and key trends to identify areas of greatest opportunity, developing prospect lists for all supplier package levels.
  • Researching leads using a variety of methods and help with recruitment campaigns.
  • Developing initiatives to grow income and alternative revenue streams, for example event sponsorship.
  • Create presentations and update key information for suppliers and prospect meetings.
  • Keeping up to date records of all suppliers and prospects.
  • Supplier invoicing.
  • Support communications department in content for ACS social media, by providing photographs at events or other supplier engagement activities.
  • Engage with suppliers to help drive social media supplier content for ACS retailer members.

As commercial assistant you should be confident in communicating with senior managers and stakeholders across the business and can adopt different communication styles to suit the audience. The role requires a confident person who will be comfortable in attending sales meetings and giving presentations. Requires you to have experience in diary management and general administrative tasks, which will highlight your skills in planning and organisation, attention to detail and accuracy, and your ability to work to varied timescales, often with conflicting priorities.

Furthermore, you will bring need skills in IT, including experience of Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. An interest in the convenience and forecourt retail industry would be an advantage but not essential.
