    • New Mandatory Alcohol Code Proposed in Parliament

    • The Policing and Crime Bill was introduced into Parliament yesterday. The Bill seeks to introduce a mandatory Code of Practice for alcohol retailers. This Code will consist of a set of up to nine mandatory licensing conditions for all alcohol retailers.

     
    • Carrier bag reduction announced

    • Environment Minister Jane Kennedy and Britain's leading supermarkets have agreed a 50 per cent cut in the number of carrier bags given out by spring 2009.

    • Yesterday an adjournment debate took place in Parliament discussing the Grocery sector. The debate was in response to the Competition Commissions recommendations in April following a two year investigative into competition in the UK grocery market.

    • The banking industry has announced measures to help small business customers in difficulty during the economic downturn. Banks has come under intense government pressure to pass on cuts in interest rates and help firms who may be running into trouble.
