HSE Launch Advice Toolkit on Dealing with Violence at Work

Following a consultation exercise carried out over Spring and Summer, HSE (Health and Safety Executive) have put together a new web-based toolkit on managing work-related violence in licensed and retail premises.
The toolkit has been produced in partnership with LACORS (the local authority enforcement co-ordinating body), Westminster City Council and the Health and Safety Laboratory and is based on what people who work in pubs, clubs and shops said about their experience of tackling violence where they work, including measures that have helped combat the problem.
The toolkit incorporates:
• good practice examples
• control measures to reduce risks
• advice on providing support after a violent incident
• information on an employer's legal requirements
• example policies and incident report forms
The toolkit is not prescriptive. Employers have a responsibility to address the risk of violence where it exists, but how they do so will vary from case to case and the toolkit is intended as a resource, not a set of requirements.
