Competition Commission Remedies

15 Feb 2008

The latest working paper on remedies is expected at 4.30pm today (Friday 15th Feb) from the Competition Commission and there is much speculation in the Press around what it will contain.

Current speculation is focussing on planning and the introduction of a competition test for towns, which would prevent towns becoming dominated by one retailer. We also expect latest thoughts in terms of strengthening the Supermarket Code with the introduction of a regulator or ombudsman to judge pricing disputes.

Whatever today’s remedies paper contains, it is not the final report, this is scheduled for April.

ACS has worked closely with the Competition Commission throughout to put the case forward for the convenience sector. We will be issuing a full press release as soon as we can after the remedies paper has been published.
