Retailers been called upon to take action after the election by inviting MPs in store to present the agenda for local shops.
ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) has issued a call to action to retailers across the country to contact their local MPs as part of the Local Shops Pledge campaign.

ACS Chief Executive James Lowman said: “Our priorities for local shops are based around an agenda of three key points: Reducing Costs, Tackling Crime and Fair Business. With the formation of a Coalition Government and over 230 new MPs in Parliament, this is a fantastic time for local retailers to have an authoritative voice in their communities.”

Before the General election, ACS launched the Local Shops Pledge campaign by writing to prospective parliamentary candidates across England and Wales. The Pledge campaign was incredibly successful, resulting in over 100 signatories to the pledge along with store visits held with key MPs like Justine Greening, Dr Philip Lee and Zac Goldsmith.

Since the election, over 40 signatories of the Local Shops Pledge have gone on to become MPs, presenting a real opportunity for local shops.

As part of its post-election campaign, ACS has also launched an online Campaign Centre, which contains policy information around the three themes of the campaign as well as comprehensive information on how to arrange an MP store visit.

Advice on how to arrange a store visit is available both online through the campaign centre and through Edward Woodall on 01252 533014.
