ACS Attends Downing Street Talks

21 Nov 2007

ACS attended talks this morning with Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, to discuss the problems of under-age drinking and binge-drinking. Producers and retailers were challenged to take part in the effort to deal with unacceptable drinking or face tougher action in the future.

Producers and retailers were asked to take part in talks to tackle alcohol related harm. James Lowman, ACS’ Chief Executive said: “Like our colleagues at the meeting, we are keen to find real solutions to the complex issues surrounding alcohol. We will continue to make our case for a No ID, No Sale culture led by Government and Industry to give further weight to the battle against underage purchases, and to support retailers and shop workers.

“Our advice to retailers is to focus on implementing the No ID, No Sale policy in stores, to use the Challenge 21 policy, and to ensure all staff are properly trained.”
