Cable Outlines Plans To End Excessive Regulation

4 June 2010
The Government has announced plans that will support business by reducing the increasing amount of regulation. Vince Cable, Business Secretary, committed to “reopen Britain for business” and the Government believes the first step in tackling this is to put an end to excessive regulation.
To achieve this Vince Cable announced that there would be an immediate review of all regulation that the last government introduced. Further still a committee will be set up to review to lead the Government drive against unnecessary measures, in particular this committee is looking to support business. Other policies from the Conservative manifesto remain too such as a one in one policy on new regulations.
Vince Cable said: “This is a real challenge and it will not be easy. We need to reduce regulation and at the same time meet our social and environmental ambitions. This demands a radical change in culture away from the tick box approach to regulation only as a last resort. It’s a big task but one worth striving for.
ACS Chief Executive James Lowman said: “Tackling the burden of regulation is a challenge that is key to economic success, we welcome these measures and hope that they will make a tangible difference. We will be engaging closely with this programme of work seeking to achieve real changes that benefit local shops.”
