Ministers have announced that the Local Better Regulation Office, set up in 2007, is under review as part of Government’s ongoing reorganization of the workings of Government designed to cut costs and increase productivity.

Arising out of the influential Hampton Review of Enforcement practice LBRO is responsible finding ways to reduce the burden of local authority regulation and inspection on business. It has been notably involved in projects to deliver more proportionate approach to tackling age restricted sales.

ACS is one of the eight sectoral bodies making up the Business Reference Panel advising LBRO on its work programme and direction.

ACS Chief Executive James Lowman said: “We appreciate the value of bodies like LBRO - they can play a vital role in influencing policy makers and enforcers to think about the business impacts of their activities. We hope that an effective LBRO emerges from this review and we continue to work with them closely in the meantime.”
