ACS Meets with European Commission on Food Labelling

Recent reports claim that the European Commission for Health and Consumer Affairs will be enforcing “Made in the EU” labelling on products.
Responding to speculation the Commission has said; “Our intention is not to make origin labelling mandatory or to restrict labelling to 'made in the EU'. There is no need to make another euro-myth.”
The EU Commission is considering new labelling rules that will prohibit making untrue statements about origin, however, there will be no blanket requirement to label where a product comes from.
The EU Commission through the Health and Consumer Protection Directorate is responsible for regulating, labelling and nutritional claims across the EU internal market. Formal proposals are yet to be made and are not expected before December.
ACS met with lead officials from the Commission this week to discuss issues concerning food labelling and retailers.
