Symbol group Budgens picked up three awards at the Asian Trader Awards, including the flagship award for "Asian Trader of the Year" at a packed ceremony in London on Tuesday night.

The Asian Trader Awards; considered the most significant and high profile independent retail awards ceremony of the year - took place on Tuesday 3rd November at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Over 1000 people attended the event, which not only rewards those who provide an excellent service to their customers but also raises awareness about the issues facing retailers in the current social and economic climate.

The “Asian Trader of the Year” award, which comes with a £10,000 prize, was won by Raj Samani, who runs a Budgens store in Bushey Heath, Hertfordshire. Speaking to Asian Trader, he said: This is amazing. I’m incredibly proud and I hope our achievement inspires other independents to realise that we can take on the Tesco Expresses of this world and be successful.
