2010 Community Heroes Finalists Announced

26 Mar 2010

The finalists for the 2010 Community Heroes award were unveiled at the Convenience Retailing Show yesterday, where the voting process began to determine an overall winner.

The ACS Community Heroes Award, now in its fifth year, will be presented to the retailer who can best demonstrate that they, and their store staff, have achieved something that has made a real difference to their community within the last year.

This year, the four finalists are as follows:

Sunder Sandher, Londis (Leamington Spa)

Dee Patel, Budgens (Woodbridge)

Charanjit and Geeta Doal, Lifestyle (Wheaton Aston)

Mike Duffy, Budgens (Lightwater)

Once voting has concluded at CRS, an online vote will take place in the weeks leading up to the ACS Summit on May 5th in Birmingham, where the finalist with the most votes will be crowned the 2010 ACS Community Hero and will receive a cheque for £1000.

Association of Convenience Stores Chief Executive James Lowman said: “The quality of entries this year has been outstanding. We have chosen four finalists in 2010 instead of the usual three, as we believe that they have all made a tangible difference in their communities and deserve to be shortlisted to be presented with the award at Summit10 on the 5th of May.

“The finalists for this award exemplify the crucial role that local shops play at the heart of their communities, and we are currently expanding our research into just how essential that role is with our knowledge transfer partnership at the University of Oxford’s Said Business School.”
