MPs consider Mandatory Conditions for Alcohol Licences
The Delegated Legislative Committee will today consider the regulations that will introduce mandatory conditions for all alcohol licenses. The power to create a set of mandatory conditions that apply to all alcohol licenses was included in the Policing and Crime Act, which was passed by Parliament last year. The regulations lay out the details of these conditions.
Out of the five conditions, only one relates to the off-trade. This states all licenses must have an age verification policy in place. The other conditions relate to the on trade and include a ban on certain promotions that encourage binge drinking, a ban on dispensing alcohol directly into the month and to make it a requirement that small measures are available in all premises. If the regulations are passed at committee, the age verification policy and small measures will become a condition on licenses from 1 October and the others from 6 April.
