ANR Secures Full Returns Credits for Dawsons Customers
The Association of News Retailing (ANR) has confirmed that Dawson News customers will receive full credit for any newspapers and magazines supplied to them by Dawson News, which went into administration this week. Smiths News and Menzies Distribution have taken over deliveries to affected stores, and following discussions with ANR, the administrator for Dawson News has confirmed that retailers will receive full credit for unsold copies returned via their new wholesaler.
ANR Managing Director John Lennon said: "Large and small news retailers have been concerned at losing returns money following Dawson's demise, and many retailers had been expecting to be treated like other creditors by the administrator. It is therefore a great relief that we are able to confirm that as far as returns go, it is business as usual for retailers formerly served by Dawson.
“We are grateful to the publishers and wholesalers with whom we have been discussing this issue for their common sense approach, and the potential impact of this decision could run to over a million pounds in returns credits across the whole industry”.

Notes to Editors:
1. The Association of News Retailing (ANR) was set up in 2001 as the news and magazines arm of the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS). ACS is the convenience store champion, helping local shops thrive through lobbying, insight, information and commercial services
2. ANR has clarified with the administrator that:
• Once a Dawson News invoice is paid any outstanding returns collected weekly will be paid to the retailer weekly by either a reverse BACS if account was paid by DD or by cheque.
• Returns will not be caught up in any pro rata distribution of assets to any other creditors.
• ANR have also confirmed with the administrator that retailers that have outstanding deposits with Dawson News will have them returned once their accounts have been settled.
• Returns will be collected as normal over an eight week period at the end of which the retailer will receive a final recall note recalling everything that remains outstanding from Dawson News.
