John Humphrys to Chair ACS Summit 07
28 Nov 2006
John Humphrys, the renowned presenter of Radio 4’s Today programme, BBC Two’s Mastermind and a veteran of TV news and radio is to chair ACS’ flagship conference for the small shops sector – ACS Summit 07.
Renowned as a tough and tenacious interviewer, his work on Today and for many years on BBC1's On the Record has made him one of the organisation’s most respected journalists and presenters.
Chief Executive James Lowman said: “I am absolutely delighted we have secured John as our conference Chair. John is a well known and well respected journalist. He will challenge speakers and delegates alike, and I am sure he will contribute greatly to making the day a success.”
John Humphrys was the first of the BBC’s journalists to present front-line news programmes on both television and radio for the Today programme on Radio Four and Television News on BBC1.
John's interviews on Today have occasionally attracted criticism from politicians, among them Jonathan Aitken, who in 1995 accused him of "poisoning the well of democratic debate". The criticism triggered an outbreak of pro-Humphrys comment among listeners and the media, including the Daily Mail which described him as "one of the most brilliant journalists in the country".
Building on the success of last years Summit ACS has grand plans for 2007. The event will take place on 1st May 2007 at the Hilton Metropole, Birmingham. More details will be announced as speakers are confirmed.
James Lowman said, “ACS Summit is the premier event in the convenience store sector calendar. We have the highest expectations for 2007 and we encourage all retailers and suppliers to book early.”
