John Barn Appointed Vice Chairman of ANR

The Association of News Retailing (ANR), the news group of the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS), has appointed John Barn of the Co-operative Group to the position of Vice Chairman.

John has extensive experience in the news industry, including nineteen years at Martin McColl in various operations and buying roles, eighteen months at Balfour as News Buyer before moving to the Co-operative Group three years ago.

John heads up the team that manages News and Mags on behalf of all Co-op Societies. The Co-op is now the third largest news retailer in the UK.

Says John Lennon, Managing Director of ANR, “John brings considerable expertise to ANR and we are delighted that he has accepted this position on our board. It comes at a pivotal time for the ANR, which is at the heart of industry talks seeking a fairer deal for news retailers, who have seen their margin decline and their carriage charges increase over recent years. John will also play an important part in building our best practice work to drive standards in news and magazine retailing.”
The ANR board includes Managing Director John Lennon, director Mike Greene, and Chairman Russ Simper James Lowman, CEO of ACS, is Company Secretary
