ACS Helps Retailers to Know 'What Your Customers Want'

30 Nov 2006

The Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) and its Premier Club members have teamed up with Shelfmax, online category management specialists, to offer independent retailers a unique new service providing in-depth, unbiased advice on how to maximise their categories.

From Thursday 30th, independents simply need to log on to the ACS website: www.thelocalshop.com to receive information and advice across 12 major categories, such as milk, snacks and tobacco, including detailed planograms.

The online initiative is called ‘What Your Customers Want’ is available for free to members and non-members alike, enabling them to make a real difference to their margins and profitability.

The project gives retailers:

• General advice on areas of importance to customers
• Advice and tips for categories
• Unbranded planograms, giving retailers broad ideas on how to best lay out their shelves
• A recommended range for categories, supplied by the Premier Club

Kate Davies, an independent retailer from Hodnet in Shropshire, said: “This new section to the website is a great idea. I am sure will be a huge benefit to independents, particularly those who need help with planograms. I regularly use the website for information and news, and I will definitely be using this new service to improve the way I organise my categories.”

ACS Chief Executive James Lowman said: “I am very excited about ‘What Your Customers Want’. It is the culmination of a lot of hard work from our Premier Club members which have all contributed to the project.

“The aim is to give independents online advice and information that is all in one place. I am confident that independents will find this service effective and use it as a foundation to implement small, but effective category changes in their stores.”
