PRESS RELEASE-27th July 2010

‘Government Lending Ambitions are Vital and Must Effect Real Change’
ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) has welcomed the Ministerial commitment to improving record on bank lending and called on Ministers to engage with the real day-to-day problems faced by retailers.
Ministers unveiled the consultation on bank lending, the ‘Financing a Private Sector Recovery’ Consultation on Monday. ACS continues to feed into policy debate on this important challenge, providing real life examples and data to Ministers about the pressure that credit squeeze has had on local shop sector.
ACS Chief Executive James Lowman said: “Credit in all its forms is vital to business across our sector, and the past couple of years have been a struggle for some. We welcome the Ministers ambitions to increase lending and agree how vital it is to securing a robust economic recovery.
“We will continue to stress our support for measures that deliver tangible results, whether it be redressing the dramatic increase in credit charges that many retailers have experienced or the freeing up of new investment capital to allow retailers to grow their business.”
