Waste and Recycling
This has been an area of particular legislative activity, particularly for the European Parliament. ACS makes sure we are a vocal participant in any consultation on European directives. Currently, ACS is working with DEFRA on how the EU directive on the recycling of portable batteries can be implemented with minimum of burden to retailers.
Plastic Bags
ACS, along with other industry bodies, has agreed to a target set by DEFRA to reduce plastic bag use by 25% in 2008. If achieved, the 25% reduction target could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 58,500 tonnes a year - equivalent to taking 18,000 cars off the road for a year.
