Sentencing
The Sentencing Advisory Panel (SAP) is reviewing sentencing guidelines for shop theft. SAP is expected to publish the Guidance in December 2007, however there have been reports that they are considering abandoning prison as a punishment for shop theft, even for repeated shop thieves.
ACS has responded to the SAP’s consultation on sentencing on shop theft. We are lobbying to retain prison as a sanction for shop thieves and belief that shop crime must be treated more seriously by police and magistrates.
