Dispute Resolution

The Business Link website has useful information on how to resolve a dispute, and what your responsibilities as an employer are.

If you have a problem with an employee there are certain procedures that you must go through, and failure to do so could lead to heavy fines at an employment tribunal.

A disciplinary issue usually arises when an employee's actions have had a negative impact on your business, for example in a case of misconduct or poor performance.

You can use the Business Link interactive tool to find out what steps you should take in resolving a dispute. This tool asks you a series of simple questions about the disciplinary issue and what action you may already have taken.

At the end you'll get:

• A summary of the progress you've made to date, along with reminders about key actions
• Advice on what you and/or the employee may do next and how to do it
• Links to additional information and support resources.
